Hack #3: Being the Purple Cow

The Purple Cow, you know, the one that stands out.

Most of us are like flock animals; trying to fit in with the rest of the world while somehow aligning that with personal values, needs and desires.

It’s not an easy equation.

And the problem with sticking to the flock is that you just won’t stand out. It should be pointed out that standing out isn’t something all of us want to do, but for some it’s essential. I work as an entrepreneur and am always asked what’s so different/unique/remarkable about the stuff I sell/do/promote.

Hello Purple Cow.

Basically, I need to be the Purple Cow.

I need to have a unique selling proposition. A different view. A different product.

I need to go against the grain.

I need to be memorable, like a purple cow.

And I really want to, too. It comes a at price, being the outlier. It means that I have to talk about the things I care about, I need to expose the most vulnerable parts of me that might not be that pretty. But it’s also the one thing that makes me feel like I have integrity, because I’m really good at being myself.

Being the Purple Cow is probably one of my best long-term happiness hacks, as crazy as it may sound.
