kAAKAO’s Birthday

Our first ever kAAKAO production happened 18 January 2018 – kAAKAO’s official birthday.

And I think that day will do down like one of those that I can remember as if it were yesterday in 20 year’s time.

I hiked (well, travelled) from London high up into the Swiss mountains to ‘give birth’ – that’s actually what the factory calls it. I was introduced as the ‘Mama’, who was on site to see her 15 000 babies come into the world. And, boy did they! One after the other, neatly wrapped and placed into a box along with 11 other pretty little bars.

I started kAAKAO with the intention of creating something insanely tasty that could be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. Initially, it started with me having all sorts of health issues and dietary restrictions. Then I learned how to cook food that all my friends and family love wholeheartedly, and that doesn’t make them think about that the fact that it might be ‘alternative’ in any way.

Surely, I could achieve the same thing with an industrially produced product too?! Make it that good and that ‘main stream’.

Let’s face it: kAAKAO is a niche product. It serves all those people with intolerances and the ones who choose to eat in a certain way (vegans). But I dare believe that all the rest, who like chocolate and who prefer better ingredients and better products, would also choose kAAKAO simply because of the taste and the brand.

Let’s see if I’m right.
