This spring I went through something quite rough both emotionally and physically and I’m only starting to feel like myself now. Still, there’s been that nagging feeling, like something isn’t quite right, and my skin just keeps getting drier and drier – to the point that I scratch myself to pieces.
So, I decided to do a parasite cleanse – which may not be for the faint hearted.
In case you didn’t know, we all have parasites in our bodies. They live in different places, and love the deepest, darkest corners of the intestines, which is why it’s a little tricky to get them out. Parasites feed off of us, which means that even if you feel like you’re eating really well, you might not necessarily get the nutritional value that the food contains.
THE BASIC EVERY DAY RULES
The cleanse involves cutting out all grains, dairy, sugar and alcohol during 21 days (after which there is a 7 day convalescent period when you stick to the same diet, but don’t take any medication). To that, you need to chew one table spoon fresh papaya seeds on an empty stomach every morning, sprinkle powdered and dried pomegranate skin onto your breakfast and swallow a paste made of curry leaves and turmeric (just SO yummy…).
You also take neem, triphala and cleansing green tablets morning and night – all of which have cleaning effects and boost digestion. This is the basics. Then comes the rest. I’ve been preparing myself for this for three weeks now, just getting everything together. Yesterday I rushed to Wholefoods to get unrefined sesame oil that I need to put on my skin twice a day.
So this is it:
A rough draft:
Day 1-7: Take two different worm medicines, one of which is made for dogs. (Ha, see – we’re all the same creatures..) A LOT of pills, 6 in the morning, 6 in the evening – and the the amount is reduced by one every day. You also drink one glass of warm plant-based milk with 8 teaspoons of ghee every morning.
Day 8-14: No worm medicine, but instead an increased amount of ghee: 14 teaspoons with plant-based milk.
Day 15-18: Increased amount of ghee: 22 teaspoons with plant-based milk.
Day 19: Increased amount of ghee: 24 teaspoons with plant-based milk.
Day 20: Increased amount of ghee: 26 teaspoons with plant-based milk.
Day 21, final day: Same amount of ghee + 2 teaspoons of castor oil in the evening to clean out the bowel once and for all.
Day 22: Back to life, eating rice soup for the entire day and taking it easy. Sticking to the slimmed down diet for one more week.
I’ve done a similar cleanse seven (!) years ago when I was quite sick and did so under medical surveillance in India. This time a dear, Indian friend of mine who works as an Ayurvedic specialist, has been kind enough to get me some specialized stuff from India and also gave me the recipe for everything I need to do. It won’t be easy, but I’m excited to see some results and most of all to get my skin balanced out again.
